Just how long is this show planning to string us along? I was more than happy to be strung along through four seasons because they were actually funny. This show has been so unfunny lately that on Tuesday morning (that's when Mondays shows become available) I went straight for The Big Bang Theory, 24, HOUSE, Gossip Girl... but forgot completely about How I Met Your Mother until last night.
Then I went through the latest episode (which I forgot) without laughing, not even once. The whole episode was just BLAH. Ted has always been moderately blah. Robin has been really blah for one and a half seasons now. My only hope was Barney and Marshall, but even in this episode, everything they say and do just seem....... trying too hard to be funny?
We get it already: Barney is a player, Marshall and Lily love each other too much, Marshall and Ted have been buddies for so long they can read each others' minds, Ted is a little tad obsessed about architecture and Robin loves GUNS just a little bit too much. No need to wave it overexaggeratedly in front of our faces in an unnatural, slapsticky kind of way. Come on, Barney pulling a I'm-Neil-Armstrong? Then tried boasting through his teeth about how he talked his way into a three-way with two chicks who found him out? And then trying to convince his friends that it's the truth when it's obviously a huge big lie. If I were Ted or Marshall, I wouldn't have even entertained that with a response. AT ALL. I'd probably just get up and walked out of the room out of sheer disgust of how pathetic my best friend Barney had become. And Robin just randomly pulling out a huge big shiny gun out of her purse? And the safety isn't even on?! PATHETICALLY UNNATURAL. Even the way they hold their beer bottles at MacLaren's look painstakingly unnatural now.
Is it just me who feels this way? Don't even get me started with the time when Robin and Barney were together. That was A COMPLETE SNOOZEFEST. When they broke up, I actually yelled THANK YOU, GOD! And the show redeemed itself with the episode with Barney's Playbook. In fact, I think that was the only redeeming episode of the entire season. I had high hopes after watching that gem, but after that it's been a steeper fall all the way to the bottom of the hill.
It saddens me when bad things happen to good shows. I'm this close to dropping this show. I reeeeally hope they can find away to fix themselves.
