I know that look. THE DEAD THRACIAN HAS RESURRECTED! Watch out, Quintus Lentulus Batiatus, your most prized Champion of Capua has smelled the skeleton you stuffed deep in your drawer. And he's pissed!

I've always wondered how Spartacus would discover the truth behind Sura's death. I just didn't expect that it would "come to him" in a dream. And if you say that's stupid, I can tell you, having experienced something like this before myself, I think it's an absolutely brilliant take the writers did on how it happened. The brain is an absolutely fascinating organ, it is capable of receiving and processing so much information. Sometimes you receive so much information it gets stored somewhere in your subconscious and suddenly, when you're asleep, or half asleep, somewhere in your brain pulls that subconscious information and processes it and VOILA. Epiphany.

And again with the brilliant titling, 'Old Wounds' represents this episode perfectly as we all know Spartacus has gone through nothing but pain and misfortune from Episode 1. He had gone through blow after blow after blow, both physically and mentally. Sura's death obviously broke him real bad, except that we just don't really see him that affected by it, because instead of tending to his mental wounds over losing his wife, he went into ROBOT GLADIATOR mode and fought and fought and fought in the arena.

Then he's hit with another big, huge blow: Varro's death. Worse, Varro's death brought upon by his own sword. Throughout the episode, I thought it was a little strange that he seems much, much more affected by Varro's death than Sura's. It wasn't until the last parts of the episode that they conveyed it was an accumulative result of his mental blows.

Again, personally, I think it's brilliant. Sura's death brings also death to the remaining Thracian in him. But Varro's death, brought the dead Thracian in him back to life. This is THE turning point of the story. This is where Spartacus begins the steps that will lead into the revolt.

There's one thing left though: SPARTACUS & CRIXUS BECOMES BFF. WHEN IS THIS HAPPENING?

Interestingly enough, now there are TWO Champions of Capua. Due to his injuries, Spartacus was unable to fight in the arena and was replaced by Crixus. Technically, Spartacus is STILL the Champion of Capua, but due to Crixus fighting in the primus, he is now also the Champion of Capua, is he not? I smell more bromantic tension!

And as usual, treachery and backstabbing is a very rooted theme in this series. It's not just the women doing it, but Batiatus managed to pull a homerun as well by a crazy bold act, I may say. Disgraced in the previous episode by the Magistrate who rejects his notion of entering politics, in front of his archenemy Solonius, Batiatus went into a nobody-puts-batiatus-in-a-corner mode and plans an insanely crafty scheme that ends up disposing both the two biggest obstacles in his social climbing feat: The Magistrate and Solonius himself. Better yet, Batiatus gains favor in the eyes of the Magistrate's wife and son. No doubt he will use this to further his agenda.

One inherent question still remains though: where does Ashur's loyalty lie? Seeing through Batiatus' plans to frame Solonius obviously places Ashur on Batiatus' side. But we've seen Ashur share whispers in the background with Solonius more often that we think he should. I don't think that has been part of "the plan" to win Solonius trust or something of the sort, mainly because "the plan" did not exist prior to the previous episode! I think Ashur is kinda like Sawyer in LOST. His loyalty lies with no one. His loyalty lies with himself and his own interests.

Mrs. Glaber is noticeably missing in this entire episode. One name was mentioned though: Legatus Claudius Glaber. Apparently he has returned, and so Mrs. Glaber returned home to be with her husband, naturally. I have a feeling we will meet Legatus Glaber in the next episode! This is gonna be juicy!

ONLY TWO EPISODES LEFT THIS SEASON! What the heck will I do when Spartacus ends? (Oh and I say that for Supernatural, True Blood, Merlin...) But the thing with Spartacus, as of right now, Season 2 is still up in the air pending the recovery of Andy Whitfield from Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma. Of course, Andy's health is the topmost priority before anything. So hope all is better with you Andy!
