I am simply baffled that they gave Robert Downey, Jr. a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Film (Comedy/Musical) category, because in my opinion, Robert Downey, Jr. should never ever do British accent... EVER AGAIN. Seriously.

I was in serious need of English subtitles (or any other subtitles in a language I can understand as long as it's written in ALPHABETS) for his mumblings as I couldn't catch 50% of what Holmes was saying! And don't give me that "Maybe you're just not used to listening to British English." crap because I COULD UNDERSTAND MARK STRONG & JUDE LAW JUST FINE, THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

Mark Strong is definitely a highlight of the movie. He's more Septimus than Hani Pasha in Holmes, but a far creepier, more menacing. At one point in the movie, while at the same time knowing that there has to be a logical explanation for it, I truly almost believed that he was The Devil of some sort. Mark Strong never disappoints.

The plot was so-so. As Sherlock Holmes is a detective it's only necessary for the plot to be a mystery that we too must solve in our own heads as we watch. The style was very Guy Ritchie too, it's like watching Snatch except in a period setting. The portrayal of Holmes invites a violent outburst from the hardcore Holmes camp but it always interests me to see a different interpretation of an iconic character that's been portrayed the same way for ages. I'm no Holmes fan but I know enough that the classic Holmes is not an underground streetfighting hooligan. Either you love Ritchie's Holmes, or you hate it.

Robert Downey, Jr. is perfect as Ritchie's Holmes. My only problem was his accent. Please just. speak. more. clearly.

And is it just me or does Rachel McAdams have no presence whatsoever in this movie? She's not memorable AT ALL. Halfway through the movie I've forgotten what her character's name was. It wasn't until the end credits rolled I realized that yes, they did mention several times that her name was Irene Adler. I'm wondering if there would be another actress that could've performed the role better. Someone feistier with more pizzazz, ...and I can't seem to think of one right now. Hm.

Maybe I should watch it one more time, not because I love it, just because I wanted to see if I'd perhaps like it more if I could hear half of the stuff Holmes was mumbling?
